The ones which give you good separation of plasma in the shortest possible time  In a cooled centrifuge 1500×g for 15 minutes is a rule of thumb (you have to calculate rev/min basing on the rotor's diameter). Sir/Madam, What does the g stand for. What is the standard temperature at which the centrifugation usually done. How are these parameters calculated by the sponsor (rpm, temperature and the duration). Thanking you, ssk |

Hi ssk! ❝ What does the g stand for. g: approximately 9.81 m/s². It's good practice to state something like '1500 × g' (1500times acceleration due to earth's gravity) in order to be able to compare different centrifuges. Stating rpm alone means nothing (since the diameter of the rotor is not given). For a conversion have a look at this document or this nomogram. ❝ What is the standard temperature at which the centrifugation usually done. Cooled Actually you don't know the temperature of the sample, but it's quite common to set the temperature of the centrifuge to +4 °C. ❝ How are these parameters calculated by the sponsor (rpm,temperature and the duration). As already stated it should allow for easy separation of plasma. I don't believe that sponsors do calculate anything - mainly they are skillful in 'copy-and-paste'... — Regards, Jaime |
