⚠️ Error 406 (in posting or replying) [Tips / Tricks]

Dear all,

[image]since we moved the site to a new server in September 2022, sometimes (‼) you may receive a false positive HTTP 406 Error when posting or replying, if the text contains a URL. The error occurs also in the Preview.

The text of the message may depend on the first language you have set in your browser or your locale

I haven’t been able to figure out what triggers the error. The ISP is large and its support was not really helpful.

The problem is always caused by a link in the post, regardless whether it is enclosed in one of the forum’s BBCodes or it is a bare URL (though the latter seems to work more often). There is no obvious pattern, e.g., most URLs of the EMA are accepted, some are not. Similar with DOIs of literature. Sometimes even links to one of my own articles are not accepted, which is even more bizarre because they belong to the same domain and are hosted on the same server as the forum…

Workarounds:
  • If you want to reply a post containing links and get the error in the Preview, use your browser’s  🔙  button to return to the posting-page. Remove all links, and go ahead.
Only if you really have nothing better to do, remove them one at a time and check the Preview after each attempt. It’s a cumbersome exercise to find out which one is triggering the error.
  • In a new post after adding any URL use the Preview. If the error appears, remove the URL. Give only the name of the document and [image] contact me giving the desired URL together with the ID of the post. Time allowing, I will edit your post directly in the database.
