Got a webcam from Amazon [Off Topic]

Dear all,

a story from a consultant’s diary.
For 16 years my clients were fine with TCs (phone) and e-mails. Starting in March due to the COVID-19 crisis, many had to work from home and discovered a new toy: Video conferences! Skype, Zoom, Webex, M$ Teams boomed.
In the beginning I had funny conversations like this one:

»We cannot see you!«
»Doesn’t surprise me – I don’t have a webcam.«
»???«

OK, OK. I tried to get one but even the largest stores in Vienna were sold out. End of April I gave in and ordered one from Amazon. Today (yep, after more than three months) it was delivered from Piacenza in Italy.

The webcam was manufactured in 苏州 and Amazon’s distribution center in Piacenza is located in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna.
Hit by COVID-19. Lockdowns, high demand, ~~first~~ last come ~~first~~ last serve…

Waiting didn’t bother me (I have a cam on my notebook though use it only to connect with friends) but the crazy delivery route. Never heard of the TSP? 2.2× as much CO₂ released than via the direct route.

Everyone knows that I’m just a belated hippie and won’t go back to trying to look like Michael Douglas in the late 1970s.

OK, a three-day beard nowadays only.
