 LLOQ and BLQ terminologies [Bioanalytics]

Dear all,

Can LLOQ and BLQ terminologies be used interchangeably? Some CROs are using LLOQ while others are using BLQ? What would be the EU and FDA's referred terminologies?

Kind regards,
Tina.

 LLOQ ≠ BLQ

Hi Tina,

❝ Can LLOQ and BLQ terminologies be used interchangeably?

That’s not a question of terminology, but rather of apples and oranges.
LLOQ: (Lower) Limit of Quantification
BLQ:   Below the (Lower) Limit of Quantification

Example: If the LLOQ is 10 ng/mL, any back-calculated value <10 ng/mL should not be reported as a numeric value, but with the character-string “BLQ” instead.

In the future maybe the list of commonly used Abbreviations (linked on top of the page) will help.

Far better an approximate answer to the right question,
which is often vague, than an exact answer to the wrong question,
which can always be made precise.    John W. Tukey
