 last sample point [Design Issues]

Dear All,

The half life of Lansoprazole is 2 hours, if the sample points are designed considering it as modified formulation 5 X half life (2 hours) = 10 hours, i.e the last sample should be collected upto 10 hours. Why most of the sample points are upto 24 hours (last sample).

It is not just with Lansoprazole, it is being done with most of the drugs.

Thanks and Regards,

DIXIT:-)

 last sample point

Dear Dixit

Lansoprazole Modified release is available as a Delayed Release formulation. Therefore even it has a thalf of 2 hrs the last sample is collected till 24 hrs.
Most of the modified release formulations has the same type of PK profile

 Knowing PK and formulation

Dear Dixit,

knowing the PK of the drug is just the first step in study planning - you have to know the other side of the coin as well, i.e., the formulation (as already mentioned by manan).

For a (terrible!) example see one of my lectures.
