Dear All! This post is a little bit off topic. As the developer of the PowerTOST package I'm naturally interested in the question "Who (how many and from where) uses this package". Normally one can't get an answer to this question since CRAN has many mirrors and therefore a download statistic is impossible to get. But thanks to the people developing RStudio there are now log-files of their CRAN cloud which can be used for an answer. See f.i. this blog. I found the results interesting enough to share. For others then me the question above translates to: "Where are people sitting around in the world who have need of power calculations / sample size estimation for bioequivalence studies and are using R for that end?". Here the results for the three last PowerTOST versions (omitting orphans with only one download of any PowerTOST version): Downloads via rstudio.com from 2013-06-21 to 2014-02-01. (release of V1.1-06 to release of V1.1-10, V1.1-09 not released to the public) V1.1-06 V1.1-07 V1.1-08 This is naturally only one piece of the picture since it requires that the R-User also use CRAN.RStudio.com for downloading their packages. And downloading is not usage. V1.1-08 is only 5 weeks old so users which infrequently updating their package use V1.1-07 yet. But V1.1-08 is now already outdated since V1.1-10 is on the way. But interesting, isn't it ![]() Some countries I hadn't expected at all! Others surprised me with high usage (JP, US, VN) and f.i. our Indian friends with low usage in respect to the high numbers of Forum users. — Regards, Detlew |

Dear Detlew & Helmut, Wow, congratulation to Detlew. The actual download/installation number should be more than this. Like Helmut, I download and install PowerTOST directly from CRAN mirror. I think few users except package developers will use RStudio to download/install packages through RStudio. However, I have RStudio installed on my Windows PC and other linux distros (ubuntu/debians/fedora) notebooks for testing purposes of different platforms. It's happy to know that so many users from Taiwan using PowerTOST. Also PowerTOST has been reviewed/introduced as one of packages in ClinicalTrials of CRAN Task View. ❝ ❝ ❝ ❝ ❝ ❝ ❝ Political correctness? Yung-jin wouldn’t like that. Haha... You bet, Helmut. Hi Detlefff, ❝ Happy to see your package is getting used almost worldwide. I actually also install from CRAN directly. Was talking to a whole good bunch of ASEAN regulators and CROs a while ago and many of them expressed interest in R and your package. I am quite sure your package has been downloaded, possibly directly via CRAN mirrors, in fairly decent numbers in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. My profile will be updated asap, btw. — Pass or fail! ElMaestro |

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? - quote from the fairy tale Snow White aka Schneeflittchen ![]() Dear ElMaestro, Helmut and others, ❝ I actually also install from CRAN directly. CRAN is actually a network AFAIK. Consisting of the main mirror http://cran.r-project.org hosted in Vienna, I think, an great number of mirrors all over the world. See them at http://cran.r-project.org/mirrors.html. What the people at RStudio.com do is to make available log-files of downloads from their own server(s) - they speak from a cloud, whatever this is ![]() In the R GUI you will be asked to choose a mirror if you install a package. In RStudio the mirror is predefined as CRAN.RStudio.com. But you may change it. So directly downloading from CRAN is not a reasonable term. And using RStudio is not necessary to have your footprint in the logs. Just choose the RStudio mirror while installing or updating packages. It is the first entry in the list of mirrors you get if you install via R GUI, named 0-cloud. See also this blog entry. [edit]Do all the R and package developers the favour and change your mirror to the 0-cloud. The faintest of all ![]() — Regards, Detlew |

Hi BRN, ❝ Well, I don't remember what was the problem but I'll keep that in mind. It was a useful feature though I’m getting e-mails bounced back from Yahoo! Following the error-message leads to this goody, telling me… This message indicates Yahoo is seeing a high volume of emails from your IP address, which is a characteristic of unsolicited, bulk emailing. … which is bizarre. Only six members have the e-mail notification set in their profile, and only one of them has a Yahoo-account. Therefore, on the average 15 e-mails are sent / day. That’s “a high volume”? Wow!
