paired vs. independent (SAS) [General Statistics]

Dear all,
can any body suggest difference between Paired equivalence and two sample equivalence while calculating sample size using SAS?

 paired vs. independent (SAS)

Dear Joshi,

I don't know if I git you right, but two samples need not to be correlated, whereas paired sample should / are.

 paired vs. independent (SAS)

dear joshi !

in the case of two treatments A and B:
independent usually means: treatment A ist administered in n subjects and treatment B is adminstered in m DIFFERENT (i.e. independent) subjects
dependent or paired usually means: treatment A is administered in n subjects and after a period of time treatment B is administered in the same subjects.

NOTE: statistical analysis is different for these two scenarios
NOTE: a cross-over design is a special case of a "paired design"

hope this helps

 paired vs. independent (SAS)

dear martin, dear JPL!

I find it very nice that you answer this question.

But IMHO the only answer should be:
"Joshi, take at least a BASIC course in statistics before attempting to plan a study with humans as victims".
Sorry but I can't contain myself.

Regards,

Detlew
