Length of block for Randomization in Crossover Trials [General Statistics]

Hi all,

How does one determine the number of blocks for a block or restricted randomization used in a crossover trial? Lets say for a 2 treatment x 2 sequence design and a 3 treatment x 6 sequence design.

Thanks
