Hi to all, when we get investigational product from the sponser, we not get information about IP's is light sensitive or not? for this i refere indian pharmacopoeia and British pharmacopoeia, in this many drugs labeled as "PROTECT FROM LIGHT" OR "STORE IN LIGHT RESISTANCE CONTAINER" it means this IP's should dispense in the monochromatic light e.g. Sodium vapour lamp? So can I all this IP's dispense in the monochromatic light? And what about film coated tablet in which key ingredient is light sensitive? or it is only necessery for drug in plasma/blood which is sensitive to the light? Please give your best suggestion... thank you and regards, Santosh A. |

The API is well protected in a solid dosage form... ❝ or it is only necessery for drug in plasma/blood which is sensitive to the light? BTW, sodium vapour lamps are not the resolution for everything. What if your drug shows an absorption maximum close to sodium’s 589 nm? Thank you HS, for giving me kind suggesion, so for diferent drug have different absoption wavelength, if drug is light sensitive, then i have to dispense in light that is not equal to the absoption wavelength of drug??? and if dispensign and dosing will done as it is (without monochromatic light) what will be the impact on pharmacokinetic of the drug? regards, Santosh A. |

Dear Santosh, ❝ what will be the impact on pharmacokinetic of the drug ? With a solid formulation: nothing. Peanuts. How could the light get into your tablet ? Let alone capsules. With an uncoated tablet, you may imagine some effect at the surface of the tablet, which is only a fraction of the API contents. If your tablets are packaged in blisters, leave them in the blisters during dispensing. If not, they will only be exposed to light for a very short time during dispensing, and for a few seconds for dosing. Not enough to have any effect. The only situation which might be discussed would be solutions or suspensions. And even there... Just follow the labelling. Regards Ohlbe |
