 need to change software [Software]

Since a renewal fee of Phoenix WinNonlin increases tremendously every year, i would like to change program to analyze pharmacokinetic and statistic. What other similar, reliable and common programmes do you recommend?

Thank you,
Pin

 need to change software

Hi Pin,

I suggest R, Kinetica, Nonmem.

You can check the below link for the list of softwares: http://www.boomer.org/pkin/soft.html

May be this helps.

 Alternative software

Hi MGR & Pin!

I think that it mainly depends how far Pin wants to go with ‘analyze pharmacokinetic’.

❝ I suggest R, Kinetica, Nonmem.

NONMEM? Wow!
  • R
    Free. Steep learning curve.
    Packages:
bear: NCA (SD, MD) & BE (2×2 cross-over, parallel, conventional replicate designs = no scaling according to latest FDA/EMA code).
See also category R for BE/BA of the forum.
PK: Basic NCA; only linear trapezoidal rule covered
    PKfit: Model/curve fitting simulations
PKtools for WinBUGS/PKBUGS: Bayesian PopPK; single dose only
    ivivc (sic!)
  • Kinetica
? first buy, 800 USD annual. The user interface is terrible. IMHO makes only sense if you have other software (CDS, LIMS) from Thermo already installed – system integration easy.
Pro: Population PK and IVIVC included. Once you have mastered the GUI use is straightforward.
Con: No BE for higher order cross-overs, no replicate designs. Some bugs (like this one unresolved for 10+ years). Support’s responsiveness close to nil.
  • NONMEM
5,150 USD annual for 4 processor cores (if you have a modern CPU: 4,120 USD for each additional 4 cores).
PLT Tools (Graphical interface): 4,000 USD, 2,000 USD annual
Very (!) step learning curve. You need additional software to perform comparative statistics.
  • Phoenix/WinNonlin
? first buy, 1,726 USD annual.
Conclusion: If you want to cover NCA and all methods needed for BE (parallel, X-overs, replicates) only R is a cost-saving alternative.

How to contact Pharsight Support & Sales

DISCLAIMER - I work for Pharsight Support and Training Services; however this notification may be interesting, particularly to academic teaching and research institutes for the product bundles and multiple seat licenses. For commercial users the equivalent contacts are listed here; http://pharsight.com/products/prod_phoenix_winnonlin_order.php
and Support details remain at http://pharsight.com/support/support_home.php.

Pharsight's Academic Research licensing has been reviewed for 2012

Pharsight, a division of Certara, believes academic research in pharmacometrics, pharmacy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and toxicology is critical to the future of our industry, so we have made it easier in 2012 for academic researchers in these fields to get access to strongly discounted licenses of Phoenix software. This is in addition to our academic teaching licensing program.

If you’re a researcher at a degree-granting university conducting academic research that could utilize PK/PD software, please complete our academic inquiry form at http://www.pharsight.com/academic/Academic_Info_Request.html and we’ll contact you with more information.

Phoenix is an integrated environment for analysis, modeling and simulation, enabling you to create re-usable workflows for data management, NCA, IVIVC, individual and population PK/PD analysis, all from within a single graphical user interface: http://www.pharsight.com/products/prod_home.php
  • Phoenix® NLME™: powerful data processing and modeling tools for population PK/PD analysis, including the following engines: FO, FOCE (ELS and Lindstrom-Bates), Laplacian, adaptive Gaussian quadrature, naïve pooled, iterative two-stage as well as a sophisticated non-parametric algorithm
  • Phoenix® WinNonlin®: next generation of the industry standard for individual PK/PD modeling and NCA
  • Phoenix® Connect™: compliant pipelining for pharmacometrics
  • IVIVC Toolkit™ for Phoenix®: In vivo-in vitro correlation analysis tools
And remember the upgrade to Phoenix WinNonlin 6.2.1 is free for existing WinNonlin licenses e.g. a Professional licenses give you the WNL and Individual modeling functions of the new Phoenix model engine plus naive-pooled option; http://www.pharsight.com/products/prod_phoenix_winnonlin_home.php. Our other legacy products have similar upgrade paths e.g. WinNonMix to Phoenix NLME.

Simon

PS We hope to announce the 6.3 release at the end of March.
