parallel design [Power / Sample Size]

Hi All,

Which CV is used for sample size calculation for a parallel design? inter CV or total CV?

How to calculate it from the ANOVA table?.

The analysis of a parallel design is same as that of a one way anova with only one factor formulations. Is it right?

Regards
Matz

Dear Matz!

Total.

❝ How to calculate it from the ANOVA table?.

See this thread.

Yes.
But for some pitfalls (assumption of equal variances) see this thread, and that one as well.

 parallel design

Dear HS,

Thanks :-)

so for parallel design the total CV is 100*(sqrt(MSE)) from the ANOVA table.

For a crossover design CV is obtained by using these formulaes from your post

what is this MSs in this formula?.

 parallel design

Dear HS,

One more doubt. In the paper

S-C Chow and H Wang
On Sample Size Calculation in Bioequivalence Trials
J Pharmacokin Pharmacodyn 28/2, 2001

they are given sample sizes for parallel design using logtransformed data in Table1.

In that table what is the sigma% represents?..Is it the total CV?

So if I know the Cmax or AUC value (mean ± s.d). Then is it correct if I calculate the total CV as (s.d/mean)*100.? Is it correct ?.

regards

Matz.
