I am in principle a little surprised to hear that R's glm is not able to give you what you want, while lm is. glm and lm -and the accompanying anova- should give pretty much the same result as long as you don't play around with glm's functionality for the error distribution.

Do you have a sample dataset that illustrates the problem you identified with glm?
