The hex-codes give the components of the RGB color space, where in CSS HEX 00 to FF (DEC 0 to 255) are possible. Therefore, 2²⁴ = 16,777,216 colors can be defined.
In red colors the components are R > G = B (e.g., #804040 = 50% red, 25% green, 25% blue), and in brown colors R > G > B.
