Hi John,

after unsuccessfully fiddling with paper, pencil, and a little brain I decided to fire up my symbolic algebra system Maxima.*

Seems that this equation cannot be solved in closed form. So you have to go with one of the numerical algos suggested by Yung-jin and ElMaestro.
