Was never justified, IMHO.
One urban myth is that the volume is related to 250 mL used in the BCS. But: the stomach is never ‘dry’ - contains about 500 mL liquid in the fasted state, and water has a very short half-life… Actually it should guarantee proper swallowing (with too little fluid the formulation may stick to the oesophagus).
