 Subject compensation [Study Performance]

Dear all,

I have a doubt regarding "compensation calculations". I know that in India most of Bio equivalence centers were paying compensation to volunteers on the basis of total number of blood draws. The amount paid was proportional to number of blood draws. Is this calculation is acceptable to IRB/IEC in view of ethics?

I even know another alternative - paying the compensation per hour during in-house stay (BE centre) of volunteer. Here by I am requesting you all suggest me better one from view of ethics/IRB/IEC.

Would appreciate you valuable suggestion !

 Subject compensation

Dear Siva Prasad

Benifits should be proportionate to the risks involved in the study.

The subject compensation should be proportionate to the risks involved in the study (such as duration of the stay, adverse events, number of sample points, volume of the blood, number of ambulatory samples etc.,).

Shiv Prasad

 Subject compensation

Hi shiv,

I think this should be decided by the IRB/IEC. There may be difference in opinion when you consider institute to that of IEC members. IRB may not agree for fixing value for human blood.

Rudolph

 Subject compensation

Hi,

You should calculate the Compensation of the each subject by considering following points

1. Number of Blood samples in the study

1.1 Rs. XX for each blood sample (If the Volume of the blood each sample is less than 5.0)

2. Number of night stay

2.1 Rs. xx for each night stay in clinical facility

3. Number of Visit for ambulatory samples

3.1 Rs. xx for each ambulatory visit

4. Total amount of Blood Loss

4.1 If blood loss is too high (e.g. more than 350 mL or 400 mL)give some amount extra.
