R use in BE/BA [Surveys]

Dear All!

Since I'm very interested in using R in planning and evaluation of BE/BA studies, but as you know I'm an Old scummy SAS dog :-D

somehow lazy to make the transition, here some questions for my and hopefully also your interest:

Do you use R for some aspects in BE/BA statistics (Yes/No)
if Yes:
1. Sample size estimation?
2. Non-compartmental PK evaluation?
3. Concentration time graphics?
4. Statistical evaluation (BE decision)?
5. Clinical data reporting?
6. Report writing?
7. Other (specify)?
If you use R:
1. Bear?
2. Rolled your own (if yes: why)?
3. Other special packages from CRAN (if yes: which)?
If you use R: In which environment?
1. Academic?
2. Pharmaceutic industry
3. CRO
4. Consultancy
Do you have any experience in regulatory acceptance of using R?
if Yes:
1. Accepted without questions?
2. Accepted with questions?
3. Querying validation?
4. Non-acceptance?
If you don't use R: why?

Dear D Labes!

1. Yes

a. Primarily (much more comfortable than my commercial programs).
b. Only in connection with 2.c.
c. Sometimes.
d. As a backup and to obtain parts of the analysis which are not covered by commercial software. :angry:
g. Teaching.

b. Modified S-Plus scripts from B Pikounis, TE Bradstreet and SP Millard (see here).
c. PK-package (Jaki and Wolfsegger) for sparse sampling

	Dear Helmut, ❝ have you ever used nQuery? No. Seems this is a fortune for me ? I have PASS at hand. Rather comprehensive but you need a deep understanding to figure out what the input parameters are and what method of sample size to choose from. For the field of BE studies it is rather overkill. — Regards, Detlew

Yes --> a, b, c & d
a, b (because of a) & c (also because of coding Bear, and others which may not be BE/BA related packages, such ivivc, stab, pkfit & tdm)
a, b & d
No and Yes. myself? No! but some Bear users may be YES from different countries, such as Australia or Japan... Once I got validation query from one of users for Bear.--> a and c (I guess)
only if one day Power to know merges R... but I guess it will not happen.

I in myself eyes are learning on both fields every day until now.
Who tells you he has mastered such complex software like SAS or R is either lying or a great blowhard.

If/when I -for the fun of it- program something in other languages, then R comes in handy to find bugs (trust me, there are plenty!). 2b: Investigating lm objects (and much more) in deeper detail is necessary every now and then. 3: NA. 4: No. Best regards, EM. — Pass or fail!
